OBJECTIVES

The conference is to provide a forum for these engaged in research and development of rock mechanics and engineering. There will be presentations and discussions on original researches, new developments, and case studies in rock mechanics and rock engineering for topics as wide as possible throughout the industry. The conference should be attended by scientists and engineers from civil, mining, geological hydro-electrical and a lot of related fields. The official language is English.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers are invited on the topics outlined in the conference themes above and on other topics within the general scope of the conference. Abstract should be within a length of 300 words and should be submitted to the conferences Secretariat as soon as possible but not later than 1st March 2002. Abstract should clearly state the purpose, results and conclusions of a work that will be presented in the final paper. Starting from 1st March 2002, the program committee will notify the contributors the acceptance of their contributions. The final acceptance will depend upon a satisfactory full-length paper.

  *A student, as full-time registered at a university or other educational institution, should present an identity proof, for instance a letter from his/her supervisor or head of department, in order to receive discount in registration.

METHOD OF PAYMENT

The details of payment along with registration form will be available by the end of April.

WORKING LANGUAGE

The working language is English. All the contributions, presentations, and correspondences will be in English.              

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

Proceedings of NDRM'2002 will be published by Rinton Press (New Jersey, USA). Each delegate will receive a copy. The book will also be distributed worldwide.

Each contribution in full length should be within 4 pages. The trim size of the proceedings is 9x6 inches. The guidelines and latex template for preparing camera-ready manuscript can be downloaded from http://www.rinton.com/style/

The contributors to the proceedings will receive in early March a notification of acceptance from the program committee that reviews the submitted abstracts.  The contributors should send in the source file (in latex or in MSFT Word) of the final full length paper in the right layout by June 15, 2002. The registration fees are due when a full length proceedings paper is submitted. Alternatively, the author can pay US$250 at the time to submit the paper, and pay the remaining US$200 later but before Aug. 1 or the remaining US$250 after Aug.1.

Some of the authors have requested to have more pages for their proceedings contributions. This is permitted with a charge of US$30 for each additional 2 pages.

SYMPOSIUM ACCOMMODATION

The hotels have been broadly classified in categories. The ranges of tariffs available are          

A. Two-room suite (double room) US$120/night/room
B. Single room US$60-90/night/room
C. Single room sharing (2 beds) US$30-50/night/room

                           All rooms are with bath, air-conditioner, color TV. Breakfast is included.

ACCOMPANYING PERSONS' PROGRAM

An accompanying persons program from 10 to 12 Oct. will be arranged. Accompanying persons may fully enjoy their stays in    Shenyang, including in-town sightseeing, free charge tours and shopping. This program will provide an occasion for people from different countries to know each other and to have a view of daily life in Shenyang.

POST-SYMPOSIUM TOURS

Three lines of tourism after the conference would be arranged:

A)     Three Gorges Project - the largest hydro-electrical engineering in the world
Shenyang –Yichang- Beijing (3 days, by airplane and cruise)

B)      Benxi Water Cave - the fantastic longest underground river in Asia
Shenyang- Benxiwater cave- Miraculous Slope- Shenyang (1 day, by bus)

C)      Ansan Thousand Mountains - a wonderful Buddy religious temple
Shenyang - Ansan Thousand Mountains - Shenyang  (1 days, by bus)
Tour Fare: US$50/person
(including transportation, meal and tickets)

 MINI-EXHIBITION

There will be exhibitions on the conference. Companies are welcome to display products, services, literature and information. The charges are US$500-1500 dollars for a stand with area 2-4 square meters, and US$200-800 dollars for a hanging chart. These interested should contact the organizing committee as soon as possible to make arrangement.

ABOUT SHENYANG

Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, is on the Hun River. Shenyang has a population of more than four millions, and is a major industrial center. Manufactures include machine tools, processed copper, machinery, steel, and electrical equipment. Shenyang is both one of Chinese megalopolises and the important industrial bases, and the center of economy, culture, science and technology, trade, finance and transportation. The climate in October is warm and dry, and very comfortable. The daytime temperature is around 23 degree Centigrade.
